Grandmother dies in massive mudslide, California neighbors say. ‘She was always happy’
A 62-year-old grandmother who was killed in a mudslide in California was remembered by family and friends as a poet and author who was always happy, media outlets report.
The Sept. 12 mudslide tore through Forest Falls after heavy rainfall, neighbors and authorities reported.
Doris Jagiello was found buried in feet of debris on Sept. 15 after being reported missing, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office said.
The mudslide brought boulders and debris racing downhill, which struck the home Jagiello lived in, deputies said.
Other properties were also damaged in Forest Falls, about 25 miles east of San Bernardino.
Jagiello’s neighbors and friends are remembering her as a grandmother, poet, artist and author, KTLA reported.
“She was always happy. She was always smiling. She was an amazing woman,” Briel Fleischmann, a nieghbor and family friend told the news outlet.
Jagiello lived in the home with her son, daughter-in-law and her grandchildren who are 9 and 4 years old, a neighbor said on Facebook.
“It’s so sad, we pray for them,” neighbor Skyler Williams told KABC-TV.
