Having a bad day? Watch adorable sea lion ‘looking for snacks’ wobble down Alaska road
Alaska is home to all kinds of wildlife that can cause a ruckus — but a recent call to police even had them surprised.
During the fall, officials are used to getting calls about bears and other animals wandering the city, the Valdez Police Department said. On Friday, Oct. 7, however, they got a call they didn’t initially believe.
“We got a call about a sea lion that had ‘crossed the road,’” police said in a news release. “It sounded like a bad joke but we went over and lo and behold a sea lion HAD crossed the road!”
The animal was spotted wobbling down the road toward a gas station, police said. It was in distress and tired because it wasn’t in its normal environment.
“We thought, possibly looking for snacks at the gas station?” police said.
Police had to get creative to help the sea lion back to the water. Officers used a backhoe to herd the sea lion to its proper location, the police department said.
“We were able to safely get this guy or gal back to the tidelands,” police said. “A legit happy ending for all of us and our new friend.”
Valdez is 300 miles east of Anchorage.
