A woman was struck and killed by a fire department truck as it was rushing to a fire in Colorado, police said.

Officers responded to the crash around 3:03 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Dorchester Park in Colorado Springs, the police department said in a news release.

A fire department brush truck had gone to the park to put out a tree stump fire when it struck a woman, police said.

Firefighters got out of the truck to check on the woman, and she had died, police said. They did not identify her in the release.

“Next steps for this are going to be a full investigation into what happened. The cause of death for that individual will be determined by the coroner’s office,” Colorado Springs Police Department Lt. Shannon Snuggs told KKTV. “It’s going to be awhile before we come to a full determination of exactly what did happen.”

Colorado Springs is about 70 miles south of Denver.
