A cancer patient is recovering in a hospital after his wife says he was beaten by another motorist after their two vehicles bumped mirrors on a road in Louisiana.

“Last night my husband was attacked by a furious man, who did not respect his age or his physical disability,” Ezaine Scott Gray wrote on Facebook on Oct. 17. “That’s just because they bumped into the mirrors of the trucks on the street.”

Deputies responded to a reported beating at around 8 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Causey Road in Prairieville, about 20 miles southeast of Baton Rouge, according to a post on the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Deputies found a man outside of a home with “multiple injuries” and took him to a hospital for treatment. He later told deputies that he had been involved in a “minor accident” and was attacked by the man driving the other vehicle, according to the sheriff’s department.

His wife wrote on Facebook that the other driver “punched him and even kicked him in the face after (he was) already on the ground.”

The injured man, Scott Gray, had fractures in his face and had to undergo surgery, according to his wife.

“I ask my friends and family to pray for him, because he is already facing cancer and now that,” she wrote.

Ezaine Scott Gray did not respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News.

Scott Gray also has a prosthetic leg, according to photos and Facebook posts from family and friends.

“I am always reminded no matter how tired I am and how much I want to give up, that my father who only has one leg, busts his ass every day,” his daughter, Savanah Jeanite Gray, wrote on Facebook in 2018. “If he can do it, so can I.”

Tawanah Duplessis Devillier, who identified herself as Scott Gray’s ex-wife on Facebook, also posted about the beating.

“Please keep him in your prayers as he heals physically and emotionally from this trauma,” she wrote. “The person responsible left him like this and has not been caught.”

On Oct. 17, Gray’s wife posted an update on Facebook that he had completed surgery on one of his eyes.

The following day, she wrote that the incident had brought her family closer together.

“It also made us see and confirm how much Scott is loved by everyone and that we really have wonderful family and friends,” she wrote. “I would like to thank all of you for the affection and attention to my husband and myself as well.”

Deputies are searching for a 2000-model black truck with a neon undercarriage and lights that are “possibly blue or purple in color,” according to the sheriff’s office. “The driver’s side mirror may also be damaged.”

Anyone with information can call the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-4636, or by text 847411 to the department’s anonymous tip line at 225-344-STOP (7867).
