A hiker filming their walk along an Arizona trail caught a celestial event on camera.
The hiker, Taylor Hiding, was filming their walk along the Lava Flow trail near the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument for a friend who couldn’t make the trip when a meteor streaked through the cloudless blue sky.
Monument staff shared the video on Facebook and said the meteor was reported “all over the southwest” on Sunday, Nov. 6.
“Did you see a flame shooting down across the sky yesterday around 11:50 a.m., but you didn’t believe what you saw? Don’t worry, it wasn’t aliens, and you didn’t imagine it,” officials wrote in the Facebook post.
“Local meteor enthusiasts” want to see more photos and videos of the event, officials said. Anyone who documented it can send photos and videos to the American Meteor Society.
