77-year-old hit and killed while crossing street with daughter, Tennessee police say
A 77-year-old dad was hit and killed while crossing a street with his daughter in Tennessee, officials said.
The two were in a crosswalk when a food delivery driver ran into them on Saturday, Nov. 26, according to preliminary information from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Police reported the crash happened at about 10 p.m. along Opry Mills Drive, which has a stretch that runs parallel to the Cumberland River. The area is home to a shopping mall and less than 1 mile from the Grand Ole Opry entertainment center.
Officers said Charles Joyner got off a nearby riverboat and was walking with several pedestrians. An SUV hit Joyner and his 57-year-old daughter, sending both to a hospital.
Joyner died from crash-related injuries on Nov. 27, police wrote in a news release.
His daughter had injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening, officials wrote.
Police don’t believe the SUV driver was impaired but said she may have failed to yield. The driver reportedly told officers she picked up a food delivery order before the crash.
“She stated that it was raining hard at the time of the collision and that she did not see the pedestrians,” the police department wrote.
Officers in their news release didn’t share whether the driver faces charges. An investigation was ongoing as of Nov. 28.
