It’s like Goldilocks with reversed roles — Colorado homeowners returned from a Thanksgiving trip and found an unexpected house guest living under their deck.

They aren’t quite sure how or when the black bear took up its winter residence there. But wildlife officials wrote on Twitter that it would need to find a more secure location to hibernate.

The homeowner, Roger D. Hudson, thanked Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials for taking care of the situation.

“Love the beautiful and diverse @CastlePines_CO #wildlife but…” he said on Twitter. “Thank you to the well-trained members of @CoParksWildlife who quickly & gently relocated our house guest to a safer location.”

He posted photos of the whole ordeal, showing wildlife officers crouching under the deck. Officials did not release information on how they conducted the capture and relocation, but one photo showed the bear muzzled and lying on the ground, seemingly sedated.

“What a surprise to come home to!” officials replied on Twitter. “Glad we were able to move the bear.”

Bears are typically hibernating by early November, according to Colorado wildlife officials, so this one seems to be a bit of a procrastinator.

Officials from the Northeast Region’s Twitter account quipped: “Can someone please tell the bears that it is December? Hopefully, this bear finds a quieter, cozier place to snooze.”
