When a South Carolina mom let one of her sons scratch off a lottery ticket she bought in November, he started to scream.

The mom won $300,000 — but didn’t keep it all for herself, she told lottery officials in a Dec. 9 news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

She gave her two sons a cut of her Cash Bonanza jackpot as an early Christmas present. While her son who scratched off the ticket was shocked by the prize, her sons weren’t surprised by her gift, according to lottery officials.

The woman, who was not identified, bought the lucky ticket at the Power Trac #13 in Anderson in November while she was with her son, she told lottery officials. “He screamed,” she said.

The odds of winning the top prize in Cash Bonanza are 1 in 900,000, according to lottery officials.

“I haven’t bought the first thing for myself,” the mom told lottery officials. “Not yet.”

The store that sold the winning ticket received a $3,000 bonus, lottery officials said.

Anderson is about 120 miles northwest of Columbia.
