She ‘went out for a biscuit’ — and came back with a winning NC lottery ticket
A stop for a Southern staple turned into a “blessing” for a North Carolina lottery player.
Donna Denton “went out for a biscuit” — and returned home with a winning ticket, officials said.
“This made Christmas a little happier,” Denton, who won the six-figure prize just before the holiday, told the N.C. Education Lottery.
Denton’s luck started when she visited the Fremont Food Mart, roughly 55 miles southeast of Raleigh. While at the Wayne County store, officials said she spent $10 on a ticket for the Triple 777 game.
Denton said she was with her husband when she checked the ticket and learned it was worth $700,000.
“We were happy anyway,” she told the N.C. Education Lottery. “Now we’re happier. This is a blessing.”
Denton, a Wilson resident who works in production assembly, kept $497,073 after taxes. She plans to give some of the prize money to her church, officials said.
It’s not the first time a biscuit run has led someone to hit the jackpot.
In Tennessee, a mom was getting a breakfast biscuit on her way to work when she scored a $1 million lottery ticket, McClatchy News reported in August.
