His wife thought he won $5 on Idaho lottery ticket, but the prize was much larger
A man from Idaho brought home a winning lottery ticket with a win so big his wife didn’t believe him.
Wesley Underwood of Boise was gifted a Sweethearts scratch ticket from his wife of 30 years, Nancy, to celebrate the New Year, the Idaho Lottery said in a Jan. 11 Facebook post.
He won $5 from that ticket, so he bought another one.
“I played it, I saw the number 16 matched and then I saw it won $50,000. I smiled, I folded it up and put it in my pocket,” Underwood told lottery officials.
When he got to his truck, he turned the winning Sweethearts ticket over and made sure to sign it because “the lottery always says to sign your ticket.”
Underwood went home and asked his wife on a date to the Idaho Lottery office because he had just won $50,000 — but she didn’t believe him.
“I knew he’d only won five bucks on the ticket I gave him. I thought he was pulling my leg,” Nancy Underwood told the Idaho Lottery. “Then I saw the ticket. Luckiest guy I know. Probably because he’s married to me.”
The two went to the lottery office to get their prize.
His wife said the money was going “straight to the bank,” while her husband said he wanted to buy new hearing aids.
“Then I’m gonna take Nancy to dinner for a date night!” he said.
