After the Show Me Cash lottery numbers were drawn earlier this year, a Missouri lottery player was bummed out.

“I was upset because I noticed someone had won and didn’t think it was me,” the man said in a Feb. 3 news release from the Missouri Lottery.

But he was sad for no reason.

“Two days later, I checked my numbers and said, ‘Oh my God,’” the man told lottery officials.

The Olivette man’s Quick Pick ticket actually matched all five of the numbers drawn during the Jan. 13 Show Me Cash drawing — 10, 20, 22, 23 and 34, according to the release.

He had won the $283,000 jackpot prize, officials said.

“I had to look at it about 20 times,” the man recalled when claiming his winnings.

He plans to use the prize money to travel more during his retirement, according to the release.

After taxes, he took home $203,760.

The winning ticket was sold at the On the Run convenience store in Olivette, part of the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
