Two bucks seen on farm with antlers locked together, Kansas photos show. One was dead
A landowner called for help after spotting two bucks with their antlers locked on a farm in Kansas, wildlife officials said.
When the officer got to the area in Rantoul, one buck was already dead, but its antlers were still locked with the other deer, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks said in a Monday, Feb. 6, Facebook post.
Photos show two whitetail bucks with their antlers stuck together. One is lifeless.
A game warden used a shotgun and slug to separate the two animals, wildlife officials said.
The buck that was alive “ran off unharmed,” officials said. The wildlife officer gave the landowner a salvage tag for the dead deer.
Bucks lock antlers when they are fighting each other for dominance or during periods of breeding.
Rantoul is about 55 miles southwest of Kansas City.
