Lottery player says he plans to help people in need after big Powerball win in NC

A Powerball winner in North Carolina says he plans to use his prize to give back.
Danny Lackey, of Greensboro, won $50,000 in the Feb. 4 Powerball drawing, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. The prize was doubled to $100,000 when “the 2X Power Play multiplier hit.”

Lackey, who collected his prize on Feb. 10, said he wants to use his winnings to help those in need, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
“We’ve got a number of people we have identified that we want to help out,” he told lottery officials.
Lackey said he bought his $3 Quick Pick ticket using the North Carolina lottery’s mobile app.
“I downloaded the app on my phone since it’s just an easier way to buy them,” he said, according to the release.
After he won, he told his wife that he “might not have mentioned” to her that he was buying tickets online, but that he’d just won $100,000, the release says.
There are six games in North Carolina that allow players to purchase tickets at a retail location or online, according to the release.
After federal and state tax withholdings, Lackey took home $71,251, the release says.
Greensboro is about 80 miles northwest of Raleigh.
