Five snowmobilers from out of town called for help after getting stuck in deep snow near mountains in Wyoming, rescuers said.

The five snowmobilers traveled from Togwotee Pass and went far along the Continental Divide Trail system on Monday, Feb. 13, Teton County Search and Rescue said.

They got four of their sleds stuck in deep snow after riding down a hill in the area of Slate Creek near the Gros Ventre mountains, rescuers said.

One was able to call for help and rescuers responded to the area.

Rescuers crossed an ice-covered river before reaching the men, who were all 60 to 80 years old, rescuers said. None of the men were injured but were tired.

The snowmobilers were on machines that weren’t made for deep snow, rescuers said. The group had only one shovel and no avalanche gear.

Rescuers helped them get their sleds out of the area and led them to Atherton Creek and then to Jackson to stay the night.

The rescue took more than five hours.
