A 49-year-old man won $100,000 after being given a second go at his luck.

The man was randomly selected after scanning his non-winning tickets on the lottery app, according to a Feb 23 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

The man, who chose to stay anonymous, was randomly picked on Jan. 12, earning entries into the giveaway after scanning his losing $6,000,000 Jackpot tickets.

The Macomb County resident got an email from the lottery but found it to be suspicious.

“I got an email that seemed really fishy at first,” the man said, according to the release. “As I read it, I decided to check my Lottery account to see if it said anything about the drawing. When I logged in, I checked my entries and confirmed that I had one for the drawing.”

He called the phone number attached to the email and quickly realized he had just scored $100,000, according to the release.

“As I talked to the woman, it started to sink in that I had really won $100,000,” the man said in the release. “Even sitting here right now, it’s so hard to believe!”

The man visited the lottery headquarters to claim his prize that he plans to use to renovate his home, lottery officials said.

Macomb County is about 40 miles northeast of Detroit.
