James Hines Jr. was in his car recently when he decided to scratch a $30 Fabulous Fortune ticket.

When the Greensboro resident saw what the ticket revealed, he didn’t believe it, he told N.C. Education Lottery officials in a March 2 news release.

“I thought maybe my eyes were deceiving me,” Hines said.

The 50-year-old mail carrier won a $100,000 prize, according to officials.

“I had to try to compose myself,” Hines told officials. “That’s the most excited I have ever been.”

After he calmed down, Hines took a few day and then collected his prize, officials said. He took home $71,259 after taxes.

Hines said he plans to use his prize to pay bills.

“This is like a once-in-a-lifetime type of thing,” he told officials.

Hines bought his winning ticket at the E Quick Shop on Spring Garden Street in Greensboro, about 90 miles northeast of Charlotte.
