Tree limb crashes onto family visiting San Antonio Zoo, hospitalizing 7, officials say

Seven people were rushed to the hospital after a tree branch crashed onto family members visiting the San Antonio Zoo, according to local news reports, including MySanAntonio.

The limb “unexpectedly broke” at about 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, a zoo spokesperson said in an email to McClatchy News.

San Antonio Zoo’s Security and EMT team responded right away to begin treating guests, the spokesperson said. Meanwhile, San Antonio Park Police, San Antonio Police and the San Antonio Fire Department were called to the zoo.

Seven visitors were hospitalized, including one in critical condition, according to WOAI.

A zoo spokesperson said this was an “unfortunate accident,” adding that the tree was healthy, KENS reported.

Nina Ryan said she was at the zoo when the “big tree fell on people.”

“It almost hit my head,” she said in a video shared on Facebook. Her family was not injured during the incident.

“Please pray for the family who got injured,” she said.
