A woman bought a lottery ticket at her workplace — and scored a record-breaking win in North Carolina.

“This is going to change our life,” Marsha Camp told the N.C. Education Lottery after the $1.1 million win.

Now, she and her partner, James Davis, plan to put the prize money toward a new home.

“We can build our house now,” Camp said in a March 17 news release. “This is amazing.”

The couple experienced the lucky moment after a trip to a Handy House convenience store in the Smyrna area, roughly 160 miles southeast of Raleigh. While at the store, officials said the two spent $20 to play the 100X The Cash game.

Camp, who works at Handy House, said she wasn’t on duty when she and Davis bought the winning ticket.

“I guess that’s just the luck isn’t it,” Camp told the N.C. Education Lottery. “We are so happy.”

It turns out, the couple’s ticket beat 1-in-320,000 odds to win big. Their $1,120,665 prize was the highest in the history of Fast Play jackpot games, beating the record of $691,417, according to officials.

The couple split their seven-figure jackpot prize in half, and each kept $399,240 after taxes. The two live in the Davis area of Carteret County, which lies along the coast.

It’s not the first time a lottery win has made someone consider a new place to call home. Last year, a big jackpot prize helped fulfill a North Carolina farmer’s dream of buying a house, McClatchy News reported.
