Eight family members, including children and an infant, were killed in a fiery crash while visiting Mexico, officials told news outlets.

The family, from Frankfort, Indiana, were all inside of a Chevy Suburban when it crashed, the Frankfort Police Department said in an April 16 news release. Five adults, two children and a 1 month-old infant were on board.

“We have lost 8 of our family members, friends and Frankfort residents. Please keep the family in your prayers,” Police Chief Scott Shoemaker said. “We need to honor their memory and ensure the families get the answers regarding the cause of the crash.”

On the morning of April 15, the family was driving in Matehuala, a city in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí, when their vehicle hit an overturned tractor trailer on a highway, Telediario reported. Images obtained by Mexican news outlets show the SUV burst into flames.

The crash is being investigated, and Mexican and U.S. authorities are cooperating, Frankfort police said.
