A community is mourning a “warm and friendly” 3-year-old who was hit and killed by a car in Virginia, police and news outlets report.

It happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in a parking lot in Lynchburg, according to the city’s police department. Officers and fire rescue crews responded to a report of someone hit by a car and learned it was a toddler.

Relatives identified him as Logan Kozlowski, WFXR and WDBJ reported.

“They are going through the worst thing a parent could imagine,” Logan’s aunt, Brittany Ashby, said of her sister and brother-in-law in a GoFundMe post.

Authorities didn’t release additional details about the crash but said they’re investigating.

Friends, family and the community gathered for a prayer service Wednesday at Timberlake Church, where Logan attended pre-school, WSLS reported.

There they shared memories of the little boy with “the big smile” who made an impact on everyone he met.

“Immediately my heart was broken for Logan’s family, for his parents and his older sister and for everybody in this community who has loved him,” Rev. Brad McMullen told the station.

“Logan was warm and friendly and had a big smile and loved life and loved people,” McMullen said. “And the kind of child who makes an impression on you even after you just meet him one time.”

No arrests had been made as of April 20.

Lynchburg is about 115 miles west of Richmond.
