Lottery player ‘almost broke the chair’ he was sitting in after scratching SC ticket
A lottery player jumped and almost broke his chair after scratching a ticket, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The man told lottery officials he’d won the lottery before but only prizes $500 and under, according to an April 20 news release.
When he purchased a $10 ticket from a convenience store in West Columbia, he decided to take it home so he could “sit down and relax while he scratched it,” the release says.
After scratching the ticket and seeing a $300,000 prize, he “jumped out of his chair.” He said the feeling was similar to what a having a heart attack must feel like, according to the agency.
“It was thrilling,” he told lottery officials.
“And I almost broke the chair I was in,” he said.
The man, who lives in Midlands, a region in the center of the state, said he plans to buy a new car with the prize money and save the rest.
