Poodle saved by Narcan after it was found unconscious in Pennsylvania, shelter says
A small poodle was saved by Narcan after being found “unconscious and unresponsive” in Pennsylvania, an animal shelter said.
Toodles the poodle was sent to SPCA’s Philadelphia facility by people who said they found him “alongside a person in Kensington,” according to a news release by the Pennsylvania SPCA. The person was also unconscious.
Philadelphia police took care of the person while the “Good Samaritans were charged with getting help for the dog,” the SPCA said.
After investigating, officials said the person found with Toodles had not taken drugs but “previously claimed to ‘share’ drugs with the dog,” according to the release.
Toodles had ingested drugs, and vets at “Blue Pearl administered Narcan,” the animal shelter said.
The pup “immediately became responsive,” according to the release.
“Toodles could have died. He could have had lasting impacts from the drugs that he ingested,” the SPCA said in the news release. “But, today he is safe, and he has a new future ahead of him.”
Toodles was placed on an IV and was “monitored closely to ensure that the drugs were working their way out of his system,” the SPCA said.
The SPCA said Toodles made a full recovery and is the “sweetest pup around.” The shelter did not comment on the person’s condition.
