A middle school student is being referred to as a “hero” after coming to the rescue when his bus driver passed out.

The bus driver transporting Carter Middle School students “became lightheaded and lost consciousness” while operating the bus Wednesday, April 26.

But a “quick-thinking” seventh grader, identified as Dillon Reeves, came to the rescue.

Warren Consolidated Schools said Dillon “stepped to the front of the bus and helped bring it to a stop without incident.”

The bus driver was treated by first responders, and the students were loaded onto a separate bus, the district said. No one was hurt.

“The actions of the student who helped stop the bus made all the difference today, and I could not be prouder of his efforts,” district superintendent Robert Livernois said in a statement.

The Warren Police Department will present Dillon with an award, WXYZ reported.

He was lauded as a “hero” by many Facebook commenters. One woman, who said two of her children were on the bus, thanked the “brave young man” for keeping her kids safe.

“My daughter was on that bus. She called me in panic,” another parent said. “It was very scary for the kids! Thank goodness for the brave student to bring the bus to a stop!!”

But for Dillon, according to his mom, “it’s just another day.”

“He has no idea the amount of people who are so proud of him today,” Ireta Reeves said.

Warren is about 20 miles north of Detroit.
