Converted church for sale in NJ comes with a ‘grave’ surprise. See it for yourself
When doing a deep Zillow dive, you’ll find that normally, homes for sale will advertise lush amenities like a massive backyard or a zen-like garden and Koi pond when attempting to get a house off the real estate market.
However, this beautiful newly converted church-to-livable-residence in New Jersey is offering up a completely different type of outdoor space with the purchase — a cemetery.
That’s right.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home — which is listed for $850,000 in Flemington — overlooks an old graveyard complete with headstones and an eerie silence, probably.
“On a scenic country road, you would never know charming river towns and Flemington were so close by,” the listing on Zillow.com says. “Property overlooks and includes the original cemetery and care of the sacred grounds will be the responsibility of the homeowner. Live in a one-of-a-kind space and become the steward of this piece of history.”
Yes, the graves will have to be in the care of a new homeowner.
While the outside is peaceful to gaze upon, the inside of the home is just as remarkable — and maybe even more so.
Converted church spaces aren’t an unusual occurrence on the housing market, but usually, the interior of one leaves hints of the home’s former life like stained glass windows or even pews. This spacious home, however, has expunged any reminder that it was once a house of worship.
And it looks amazing.
“Beautifully masterminded by a local architect, this home can truly be your sanctuary,” the listing says. “Step through double glass doors into an ample foyer, pass the study, laundry/mudroom to arrive at the bright open-concept living area, a soaring space.”
The listing is held by Kevin Shawn McPheeters with Callaway Henderson Sotheby’s International Realty.
Flemington is about 50 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
