Lottery player can’t sleep after her huge win in Virginia. Now she’s ‘on cloud nine’
A Virginia woman “was up all night” after winning the top prize on a scratch-off ticket, state lottery officials said.
The Quinton woman scratched the Money Blitz ticket while on the phone with her fiancé and soon realized how much she’d won: $2 million, according to a May 11 news release from the Virginia Lottery.
She bought the $20 ticket from a Safeway store in Fairfax.
“I never went to sleep,” she told lottery officials. “I was up all night!”
The lottery winner beat odds of 1 in 1,142,400 to win the $2 million jackpot and was the first to claim the game’s top prize, the release said. She chose to take the one-time cash option, walking away with $1,250,000 before taxes.
Only two top prizes remain.
“I’m floating on cloud nine!” the woman said as she turned in her winning ticket, lottery officials said.
Quinton is about 20 miles east of downtown Richmond.
