Hiker slips on icy trail and hurts leg, then slips and hurts other leg, NH officials say
A hiker was rescued after slipping twice on an icy trail and injuring both of her legs, New Hampshire officials said.
The 28-year-old was hiking up the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail with a friend on Saturday, May 13, headed toward the AMC Lakes of the Clouds Hut, when she slipped and hurt her leg, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said in a news release.
While coming back down the trail, “she slipped again on an icy stretch of trail,” hurting her other leg, the department said.
The hiker’s friend called 911, and multiple agencies responded to carry her down the trail, officials said.
She was checked by first responders before seeking her own medical treatment, according to officials.
This was the woman’s first hike in the White Mountains area, and “she did not have proper footwear for hiking these trails” with snow and icy conditions, the department said.
“The White Mountains are rugged and unforgiving and can still be icy and snowy this time of year,” officials said.
The department said those wanting to hike the area should plan for conditions.
Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail is about 110 miles northeast of Manchester.
