A logger was seriously injured after a moving boulder struck him, stranding him in an Oregon canyon, deputies say.

After being hit by the boulder “outside of Walton” on May 9, the 32-year-old was stuck in a canyon about 1,000 feet away from the road, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said in a May 16 Facebook post.

The man had “serious injuries to his pelvis, leg and head,” the sheriff’s office said.

The boulder also struck another logger who had “less severe injuries to his lower leg,” deputies said.

The sheriff’s office said members from its search and rescue team arrived on scene and made their way to the logger on foot.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hoisted out the seriously injured logger and took him to a hospital, according to deputies.

The second injured logger walked out of the area with some help, the sheriff’s office said.

Both loggers “are expected to survive,” deputies said.

Walton is about 30 miles west of Eugene.
