A 74-year-old patient was killed when the ambulance she was in collided with multiple vehicles in Alabama, officials say.

Dana M. Foster was being transported in a 2013 Ford F-350 ambulance the evening of May 16 when it struck a tractor-trailer head-on, according to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The wreck happened on Alabama 21 in Talladega County.

Officials said the ambulance also struck a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2023 Honda CRV after colliding with the tractor-trailer.

The ambulance driver, on-board paramedic and the drivers of the Nissan and Honda were all taken to local hospitals after the wreck, officials said.

Regional Paramedical Services, which owns the ambulance, said it is cooperating with law enforcement as the wreck is investigated.

“Our primary focus at this difficult time is to protect the privacy rights of the individuals involved in this accident,” David Waid, the company’s vice president, wrote in a May 16 Facebook post. “We continue to ask that concerns and prayers be centered with the individuals and families who have been impacted by these tragic events.”

Talladega County is about 40 miles east of Birmingham.
