Retiree ‘got the shakes’ after his huge Iowa lottery win. ‘I couldn’t sign my name’

A retiree in Iowa was “dumbfounded” and unable to contain himself after winning a six-figure lottery prize, officials said.

Franklin “Bob” Huff, a 75-year-old man from Glenwood, purchased his winning ticket from a local gas station, according to a May 17 news release from the Iowa Lottery.

He asked a store employee for a $10 scratch-off ticket because it was “something to do,” he told lottery officials.

“It was something to do, all right!” he added.

When he returned home, he scratched off the ticket and couldn’t believe his eyes.

“You’re thinking in the back of your head, ‘This can’t be real!’” he told lottery officials.

When he arrived at the lottery headquarters in Clive to claim his prize, he said he “got the shakes,” adding, “I couldn’t sign my name or anything else.”

Huff intends to use some of the prize money for home improvements and plans to save the remainder.

The game that he played, Living Lucky with Luke Combs, has half a dozen top prizes valued at $100,000. And the odds of winning one are 1 in 125,955.

Glenwood is about 25 miles southeast of Omaha, Nebraska.
