Husband left stunned by big Powerball lottery prize in Michigan. ‘My heart dropped’

A 66-year-old Michigan man who likes to buy his Powerball tickets online recently received an email that said he “won a prize.”

“I logged in to my account and my heart dropped,” Burke Surratt told Michigan Lottery officials.

The Clinton Township husband had matched the Powerball and four white balls during the April 15 drawing, according to a May 24 news release. This qualified him for a $50,000 prize.

But because Surratt had added on the Power Play option, his prize was multiplied by three for a total of $150,000.

“It was shocking,” Surratt said when claiming his winnings. “Me and my wife called our family right away to tell them the big news.”

He plans to save his prize money, according to the release.

Clinton Township is part of the Detroit metropolitan area.
