Woman vanishes underwater while trying to save dog, Oregon cops say. Now body is found

A woman’s body was pulled from a river she went missing in weeks ago, Oregon officials said.

On May 12, Josephine County Sheriff officials responded to reports of a man and woman “in distress near the boat ramp at Indian Mary Park” in Merlin, according to a news release by the department.

Lynn Boyum was with a man, identified by family in a GoFundMe as Danny Boyum, when their dog went into the river, swam to the other side and then refused to swim back, deputies said.

Boyum went into the river to save the dog when she was “overwhelmed by the swift current,” according to the release.

The man attempted to throw Boyum a rope but it didn’t work, deputies said. He eventually entered the water and was also grabbed by the current.

Witnesses pulled Danny Boyum from the water and started CPR but he later died at the hospital, officials said.

Lynn Boyum was last seen floating down the river, the release said.

After searching that day for Boyum, the search was called off until the next morning, deputies said. After hours of searching, it was called off again.

“Lynn made strangers feel welcome and always made room at the table or in their home to make sure you were never alone,” according to a GoFundMe page setup by loved ones after she went missing.

On June 3, Boyum’s body was found in the river near Argo Recreation Site and positively identified, the release said.

“Lynn was a mom and grandma to many of us here in the community. She spoke life and encouragement into so many of us” the GoFundMe page said.

Merlin is about 240 southwest of Portland.
