Sisters who ‘loved each other deeply’ killed in head-on wreck, NC cops and family say
Three sisters were among four people killed in a head-on wreck in North Carolina, state troopers and family members say.
Troopers said the crash happened around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, when a Kia crossed over the center line while navigating a curve, striking a Hyundai head-on in Moore County.
All three people in the Hyundai and the driver of the Kia died, troopers said in a news release. A woman who was a passenger in the Kia was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that speed and reckless driving from the Kia were factors in the collision, troopers said.
The Hyundai was driven by 72-year-old Gloria Medlin McCrimmon, according to troopers. Cheryl Elaine Medlin, 63, was riding in the front seat, and Viola Medlin Singletary, 74, was sitting in the car’s back seat.
The three women were sisters who “loved each other deeply,” Cheryl Elaine Medlin’s granddaughter, Brianna England, told McClatchy News. Medlin would have turned 64 on June 8.
“I’m lost without you. I wish you were here so I can give you one last hug and kiss,” England wrote in a June 8 Facebook post for her grandmother’s birthday. “You always told me it’s never goodbye it’s always going to be see you later.”
“This is one hard (pill) to swallow,” one person commented on another of England’s Facebook posts. “My heart will never be the same.”
Moore County is about 70 miles southwest of Raleigh.
