Helpless driver slams into Dollar Tree, creating trail of destruction, SC photos show
A Ford Mustang barreled into a Dollar Tree, leaving a path of destruction inside the South Carolina store, photos show.
The crash left glass shattered and merchandise strewn across the floor of the business in Williamston, roughly 20 miles south of Greenville, according to posts shared on social media.
The Williamston Police Department was called to the messy scene at about 9 p.m. June 12. The Mustang driver reported that she was backing into a parking spot at a neighboring Subway restaurant when her accelerator got stuck.
“The next thing she knows, she’s jumping the curb,” Lt. Jody Culbertson of the Williamston Police Department told McClatchy News in a phone interview, adding that the stuck accelerator “took her through the front door of the business.”
Officers said the store was left with “significant” damage, including missing glass at the entrance and fallen shelves inside. Though there were no injuries and no charges are expected, Culbertson urges people to keep their vehicles maintained.
“If it’d been in the middle of the day, there’s no telling how many people could have been there,” Culbertson said. “But due to the time of the day, thank goodness no one was hurt.”
Dollar Tree didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ requests for additional information on June 13.
