German Shepherd plunges 300 feet off cliff. See dramatic rescue on remote Oregon beach
The owner of a German Shepherd was reunited with their pup after she fell off a cliff and onto a remote, rocky beach in Oregon.
The dog had plunged 300 feet off a cliff to a rough part of the beach only accessible by rappelling down from a hiking trail in Ecola State Park, officials with the U.S. Coast Guard with the Pacific Northwest region said in a June 15 post on Twitter.
The fall injured the dog, officials said. Video taken from the rescue helicopter on June 14 shows her sitting down on the rocks around 8:20 p.m. as a wave crashes into her and sends her limping farther up the shore to escape the cold ocean water.
Coast Guard officials lowered a rescue diver into the waves, who crab walks up the shore wearing flippers, video of the dramatic rescue shows. Both the diver and the dog are then hoisted back into the helicopter, and the rescuers bring the dog back to her owner in the parking lot of the state park.
“So glad you rescued that poor baby,” someone commented on the post. “Great work y’all.”
Several also wished the dog a quick recovery.
