Date night turns lucky when woman buys NC lottery ticket. The prize left her in tears
A date night turned lucky when a woman played the North Carolina lottery.
Klarissa Stevens was moved to tears when she discovered the ticket she bought was worth $100,000. Now, the Raleigh resident said she plans to put some of her winnings toward a new car.
“We won’t be a single-car household anymore,” Stevens told the N.C. Education Lottery in a June 16 news release.
Stevens hit the jackpot the same night she and her boyfriend went to the movies. After the date, she reportedly went to a Sheetz convenience store to get an energy drink.
While at the Raleigh convenience store, officials said Stevens claimed some smaller prizes and also decided to try her luck on some new lottery tickets, including one for the $5,000,000 Ultimate scratch-off game.
After spending $30 to buy a ticket, Stevens checked to see how she fared. “It felt like with each stroke of the scratch-off, she revealed a bigger and bigger prize,” officials said.
“I cried,” Stevens told the N.C. Education Lottery.
Stevens kept $71,259 after taxes. In addition to getting a car, she said she plans to pay bills and save money.
It’s not the first time a prize has brought a lottery player to tears. In South Carolina, a man said he “cried like a baby” after he won $3 million, McClatchy News reported in March.
