Woman weeks from giving birth drowns in Indiana lake, cops say. ‘Such a sweet soul’
A 30-year-old pregnant woman drowned while swimming in an Indiana lake, authorities said.
The Hobart Police Department and Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials said the incident happened Sunday, June 18, in Robinson Lake in Lake County. The lake is about 40 miles southeast of Chicago.
The woman, identified by the Lake County Coroner’s Office as 30-year-old Ladakh Farley, was swimming in the lake with a man when they both began struggling, officers said.
Police said the man was pulled to safety by a witness, but Farley went missing and did not immediately resurface. Her body was pulled from the water more than two hours later, according to police.
Farley was seven and a half months pregnant, according to the coroner. Two days before her death, she said in a Facebook post she was excited to welcome her baby boy.
Her older brother, Lajuwon Farley, said funeral arrangements are pending.
“Such a sweet soul,” one loved one said in a Facebook post.
It’s unclear the circumstances that led to her drowning. Officers reminded swimmers to wear a life vest while swimming in open water or in a pool.
