Grandfather wakes his wife after seeing ‘surreal’ NC lottery prize. ‘In disbelief’
Michael Camp keeps an eye on the Cash 5 jackpot in North Carolina.
“Whenever it gets over $300,000, I like to start buying tickets,” Camp told lottery officials, according to a June 27 news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
When the jackpot recently surpassed $450,000, Camp bought a $1 ticket using the lottery app, he told officials.
The next morning, Camp checked his email — and saw a surprising notification. He had won the $453,907 jackpot, according to officials.
“It was surreal,” Camp told officials. “I went and woke up my wife. We were both in disbelief.”
After taxes, Camp took home $323,409, officials said. Camp plans to use his prize to take his wife on a trip to Europe, celebrate with his grandchildren and save some.
“We love to travel,” Camp, who is from Cary, told the lottery. “We used to live in Europe and it will be great to go back.”
Cary is about 10 miles west of Raleigh.
