Chuck E. Cheese coin led man to NC lottery prize so big, it left him ‘bawling’
Bobby Gary was cleaning out his car when he found something special under one of the seats: a Chuck E. Cheese coin from 2010, the year he and his wife got married.
“I told myself, ‘I am going to scratch with this until l get lucky,” Gary said, according to a June 30 North Carolina Education Lottery news release.
After finding the coin, Gary headed to the Harris Teeter in Durham where he bought a Mega 7’s, officials said.
“I said, ‘I feel like it is going to bring me luck. And it did,’” Gary said.
Gary won a $2 million prize using the coin, according to officials.
Then he called his wife to share the good news.
“I was bawling my eyes out when I called her,” Gary recalled. “I was just so happy.”
After taxes, Gary took home $851,174, lottery officials said. He plans to use his prize to pay some bills, invest and maybe buy a house.
“If we do it right, this sets us up for the rest of our lives,” Gary said.
