Spare tires are often helpful in dangerous roadside situations where a set of nails has just been mowed down, or when the main tires go bald and suddenly burst.

But using them to — well — build a house is a little new.

And that’s exactly what’s going on with this earthship gem that has landed on the real estate market in Johnson, Vermont, for $199,000.

Earthships are usually built out of green, natural elements to reduce a house’s carbon footprint, but this particular two-bedroom, one-bathroom home does that in spades.

“Live a more principled, fewer-bills, green life in 2023! This EarthShip design offers you a rare, cozy, and instant off-the-grid option, in a custom, renewably made design, with solar electric and hot water,” the listing on Realtor.com says.

Peek at the interior and notice the heaps and heaps of tires that line almost every wall inside the home. Literally.

Sure, there are plenty of features in and around the residence that will distract from the fact that the house is probably sponsored by Goodyear, including:

  • One great room

  • Soaking tub

  • Greenhouse room

  • High ceilings

  • Polished floors

The house was featured on the popular TikTok page @zillowtastrophes, and the creator appeared a little worried when going through the photos in the video.

“I love the idea, but I do NOT want to look at inside,” one person wrote on TikTok.

“I’ve seen a lot of people try to build earth ships. this might not be the nicest but at least it’s successful,” another said.
