A helpless creature was spotted clinging to an offshore piling at a ferry terminal in Washington, transportation officials said.

The small kitten was first seen on Wednesday, July 26, on a wingwall at the Clinton terminal by the Tokitae crew, Washington State Ferries said in a Twitter post.

The Kitsap ferry approached with passengers and began looking for the cat.

Ferry crew members saw the cat in the water and rushed into a rescue boat to save it, officials said.

Once they reached it, they saw it clinging to piling in the water.

Workers grabbed the cat and gave it to terminal workers, who made a makeshift kennel.

“The kitten was transported to the South Whidbey Animal Clinic for a check-up ... and to see how many more lives it has remaining,” transportation officials said in the tweet.

Clinton is a community on Whidbey Island. It’s about 30 miles northwest of Seattle.
