Rain delay at Post Malone concert leads NC dad to huge lottery win. ‘Perfect storm’
“Congratulations” are in order for Zachary Sharpe — a Post Malone fan who credits a rain delayed concert with his recent lottery win in North Carolina.
Sharpe told officials his win came after a “perfect storm,” according to an Aug. 1 North Carolina Education Lottery news release.
“It was a wonderful day,” Sharpe told officials. “One of the best days of my life.”
The Davidson County dad spent Saturday, July 29, driving to Charlotte with his wife and children for a Post Malone concert, he told officials. Post Malone is a popular rapper and singer who has several hit songs, including “Sunflower” and “Circles.”
Severe weather delayed the show, but Sharpe said he and his family still had a great time.
“It was incredible,” Sharpe said in the release. “He puts on a wonderful show.”
The delay meant the family was driving back home later than expected — and that’s when things started to fall into place, according to Sharpe.
Sharpe stopped at Sheetz in Lexington so his family could use the restroom. While he waited, he bought some lottery tickets, officials said.
“I think about all of the factors that played into when I got to that store,” he told officials. “I bought a couple tickets and started scratching.”
Sharpe’s first ticket revealed a $300 prize, officials said. Then he moved to his second scratch-off — a Black Titanium ticket — and saw a $100,000 prize.
“When I scratched it off I about passed out,” Sharpe told officials. “I was literally speechless. We all were.”
After taxes, Sharpe took home $71,259, which he said he’ll put toward school payments, bills and savings.
Lexington is about 60 miles northeast of Charlotte.
