A wife’s “unusual request” led a man to a gas station where he scored a big lottery prize in Maryland.

He won $50,000.

The 63-year-old man from Harford County stopped by a gas station to fill up his wife’s car ahead of an approaching storm, the Maryland Lottery said in an Aug. 9 news release.

But this kind of request wasn’t typical, the man, who lottery officials didn’t name, said in the release.

“My wife asked me to get gas, but she never asks me to get her gas. It was the strangest thing,” he told lottery officials.

At a gas station in Joppa, he bought two scratch-off tickets and won a total of $15.

He used the money to buy a Cash Multiplier game and scratched the ticket.

Then he realized he had a winning ticket worth $50,000.

“I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I couldn’t believe it. I am very humbled,” he said.

He told lottery officials he hasn’t decided how he will spend the money.

Joppa is about 20 miles northeast of Baltimore.
