Sleeping grandfather dies when SUV crashes into his home, Arizona family says
A grandfather sleeping inside his Phoenix home died when an SUV slammed into the house and pinned him underneath, Arizona news outlets reported.
A silver Kia crashed into the home at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, killing a 66-year-old man inside, police told AZ Family.
The man, identified by news outlets as Jose Martinez Aguirre, was found pinned beneath the vehicle and later died of his injuries at a hospital, KSAZ reported. Family members sleeping upstairs heard the crash and ran to check on him.
No one else was hurt, according to the station.
His son-in-law described the slain man as a hard worker who helped the family, KNXV reported.
Police detained the SUV driver, who remained at the scene after the crash, KPTV reported.
An investigation into the fatal crash continues.
