Watch Hurricane Idalia churn toward the Georgia coast on beach camera livestreams
Heavy rain and flooding are expected as Hurricane Idalia barrels across southeast Georgia toward the coast.
The powerful storm — packing maximum sustained 120-mph winds — made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend as an “extremely dangerous” Category 3 storm Wednesday, Aug. 30, according to the National Hurricane Center.
It’s forecast to reach southeast Georgia by late Wednesday afternoon, and livestream cameras are stationed along multiple beaches to capture the storm as it approaches.
Views of the impending storm will allow Georgians near and far to see the hurricane in real time as it bears down the state’s Lower Coastal Plains, which include popular tourist destinations such as Savannah and Jekyll Island.
Potential impacts include damaging winds, coastal inundation, high surf, rip currents and dangerous tropical storm conditions, forecasters say.
A hurricane warning, as well flood and tornado watches remain in effect for parts of southeast Georgia through Wednesday night.
