36-year-old dies when boat carrying ATV flips in rough Alaska river, troopers say
A 36-year-old man trying to ferry an ATV across a rough Alaska river died when his boat capsized, state troopers reported.
The Illiamna man and a woman were trying to move an ATV across the Newhalen River when rough water flipped their boat Friday, Sept. 8, Alaska State Troopers said in a dispatch.
The woman swam to shore but emergency crews responding at 3:30 p.m. found bystanders had pulled Dwight Anelon from the river and were trying to revive him, troopers said.
Anelon was taken to a clinic, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.
Neither he nor the woman were wearing life jackets. No foul play is suspected.
Illiamna is about 200 miles southwest of Anchorage.
