Lottery player didn’t think he had any luck — until big Powerball win. ‘Can’t be right’
A North Carolina man considered himself unlucky, but a big Powerball win proved otherwise.
John Miseo of Morganton said he couldn’t believe his eyes after winning a $100,000 prize, according to North Carolina Education Lottery officials.
Miseo purchased a Quick Pick ticket with a Power Play for $3 at a Quality Mart in Morganton and wound up matching four white balls and the red Powerball in the Sept. 11 drawing, officials said in a news release.
He initially won $50,000 but doubled his money when the 2X multiplier kicked in.
“When I first checked the numbers, I knew I won something but I didn’t know how much,” Miseo told officials. “The next day I went online to see what I won and I thought, ‘Oh no, this can’t be right.’”
He claimed his prize on Sept. 20 and walked away with just over $71,200, after taxes.
Miseo said he plans to pay a few bills with his winnings.
The Powerball jackpot swelled to $750 million, with the next drawing set for Saturday, Sept. 23, according to the lottery game’s website. The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Morganton is about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte.
