Knife-wielding woman stabs 3, including police officer, at Atlanta airport, cops say
A police officer was among three people stabbed in a knife attack inside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to the city’s police.
Damaris Milton, 44, was arrested in the Wednesday, Oct. 11, incident and charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, jail records show.
Authorities said it happened at about 4:45 p.m. when Milton, armed with a knife, entered the south terminal near the security checkpoint.
Officers ordered her to drop the weapon as they tried to corner her and move travelers waiting in the security line out of harm’s way, police said in a release. At some point, Milton is accused of stabbing a fellow traveler and then an Atlanta police lieutenant as he attempted to arrest her.
Frightened travelers posted photos and video of the incident on social media.
Investigators said they learned Milton had also stabbed a taxi driver before the scuffle inside the airport.
Another officer managed to tackle and disarm Milton before taking her into custody, police said. She was later booked into the Clayton County Jail.
Authorities haven’t identified the victims but said they all were “alert, conscious and breathing” when they arrived at a hospital.
Police said they’re investigating what led to the incident.
