Man hears wife screaming, then sees Virginia lottery prize. ‘Always knew I’d win big’
As Cheryl Howerton enjoyed time with her husband on their backyard patio on a Saturday afternoon, she picked up her phone.
She started to play VIP Spins, an online game from the Virginia Lottery.
Suddenly, she started screaming.
“My husband thought something was wrong!” Howerton told lottery officials.
It was quite the opposite.
The Boydton resident had won the $991,681 game jackpot.
“I always knew I’d win big,” she told officials, according to an Oct. 20 news release.
Howerton said she considers herself a lucky person and wins regularly, but she doesn’t yet have plans to use her latest prize.
The VIP Spins game is part of the Mega Money Jackpots, a pool of winnings that grows as more people play across different states.
The odds of winning any prize in the VIP Spins game are 1 in 3.67.
Boydton is about 75 miles north of Raleigh, North Carolina.
