62-year-old found trapped under tree 24 hours after he went missing, NE officials say
The family of 62-year-old Virgil Janzen of Nebraska said they knew something was wrong when he wasn’t answering or returning any of their calls.
They last spoke with Janzen on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 21. They said he never showed up for work the next day and some farm chores didn’t get done, which was unlike him, according to a news release from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 11 a.m., Oct. 22, sheriff’s deputies went to Janzen’s home in Holmesville to speak with family members about their concerns. Family and friends began to search Janzen’s property to see if they could find him or any clues to where he may be.
Deputies were able to trace Janzen’s cell phone to its last known location. After heading to that area, they found Janzen in a pasture trapped under a tree, the release said.
Janzen said he had been clearing out trees and became trapped under a fallen tree, according to the release.
Janzen was flown to a hospital to be treated.
Holmesville is about 50 miles south of Lincoln.
