Dropped bottle leads rescuers to 22-year-old lost hiker on Arizona trail, cops say
A dropped bottle pointed rescuers to a lost hiker on an Arizona trail, deputies said.
The 22-year-old woman called 911 on Nov. 12 after losing her way while on the Devil’s Bridge Trail in Sedona, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
Shortly after calling authorities, her phone died, deputies said.
But dispatch was able to get her coordinates and send rescuers to find her, deputies said.
Rescuers found a bottle that belonged to her on a trail. Then they found her on the Dawa Trail, which is miles from the popular trail she intended to follow, deputies said.
The Devil’s Bridge Trail is a 1.8-mile round-trip hike in Sedona that leads hikers to a “heavenly” sandstone arch, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
This trail is described as being “moderately difficult.”
Sedona is about 30 miles south of Flagstaff.
